Mareas, which means 'tides' in Spanish, is a piece about rising sea-levels. It is a meditation on water and the power of the ocean; the precariousness of feedback-loops once activated in our climate; our global planet on the verge of cataclysm. It uses a descending circle of 5ths motive in a variety of patterns section by section. It expresses tumult and calmness; violence and stillness; movement and repetition.
